Contrary to my expectations, I was pretty disappointed by London Fashion Week's collections. I was hoping for way more extravagance from the designers of this city recognized for its eccentric fashion. Many collections therefore bored me, but I still could appreciate a few unusual shows. For many, the watchwords seemed to be transparency and new fabrics, reinventing sportswear with a slightly futuristic touch. It was notably the cas of Christopher Shannon, Jonathan Saunders, Bobby Abley (from emerging designers show MAN), Meadham Kirchhoff and Shaun Samson. A few played with ingenious patterns, such as Christopher Kane, Saunders but particularly KTZ, who stood out with its North African inspiration. Alexander McQueen, as always, elevated itself above the others, with a very baroque collection, at the opposite of the sportswear, and relaxed chic trends of the season. Hats off to Craig Green at MAN, for sticking to his guns despite his detractors, and delivering a new collection among the most eccentric. My favorite show remains Sibling, with his smiling models sporting amazing knitwear, in truly inspiring colors.
